Why Recall Pat Meyering?
To stop his bullying and abuse of power!

Pat Meyering...
·        Is the only councilmember who refuses to sign Sunnyvale's Code of Conduct for elected officials.
·        Verbally attacks Sunnyvale citizens, City staffers, and his fellow council members at City Council meetings.
·        Has repeatedly disclosed confidential information in violation of state law thereby exposing the City to lawsuits.
·        Has been formally censured by the Sunnyvale City Council.
·        Habitually misrepresents facts at City Council meetings.
·        Has stated that his goal in serving on the council is to "Tear it All Down".

The recall effort is not about partisan politics. There is room on the council for widely differing views about the many issues facing Sunnyvale. There is no room for a council member who refuses to constructively engage with the rest of the council and instead resorts to bullying and abuse.
Ask yourself the following questions:
·        Why did the City Attorney quit during Meyering’s first year on the Council after repeatedly being verbally abused by Meyering during Council meetings?
·        Why did the City Manager leave during Meyering’s second year on the Council?
·        Why did it take so long to hire a new City Manager?
·        Why is he suing the city of Sunnyvale (essentially suing himself), and who else has he sued?
·        Has he accomplished anything for us while on the City Council?
·        Why had all the members of the Sunnyvale Housing and Human Services Commission, as well as the city staffer for the commission, left by the end of Meyering’s term?

Breaking News!

  • Two Letters to the Editor of the San Jose Mercury from Sunnyvale residents make the case for recall. Peter Cirigliano points out the absurdity of characterizing Meyering's failure to sign the Sunnyvale Code of Conduct as "liberating." Johanna Schmid writes that Meyering deserves the same fate as any other out-of-control employee.
  • The San Jose Mercury News finally weighs in on the recall campaign. The article points out that Meyering has been formally censured by the council, that he is now the subject of an unprecedented recall campaign, and that he has repeatedly accused his fellow councilmembers of "lining up surrogates" to verbally attack him at council meetings. The article quotes interim city attorney Michael Martello who in a letter characterized Meyering as "dishonest", "deceptive", and "delusional",
  • The Sunnyvale Sun has an article on the city council's attempts to deal with Meyering's intransigence. Meyering's contempt for the mayor's authority and his refusal to abide by council rules may endear him to rabble rousers, but it's preventing the council from seriously discussing the important issues.
  • A new video from the July 29th council meeting shows Councilmember Meyering reacting to a citizen who points out the absurdity of the councilmember's continual rants about his inability to "see the legal bills." Meyering once again levels the charge that the citizens' remarks were scripted by other councilmembers.
  • Even former supporters of Meyering are beginning to see that his belligerence and inability to work with other Councilmembers makes him an ineffective addition to the council. See what former Meyering supporter Dan Hafeman has to say on our Comments by Residents page.
  • A new letter to the editor in the Sun by former Councilmember Chris Moylan compares the current recall effort to the recall of San Jose Councilmember Kathy Cole 20 years ago.
  • SanJoseInside runs the most comprehensive article to date about the recall effort.
  • A new video from the 7/16/2014 City Council meeting shows Meyering's reaction when he is confronted with the fact that he is in fact the second highest compensated member of the council. In his unhinged response Meyering accuses the other councilmembers of "orchestrating" the citizen's appearance.
  • Mahatma Meyering?? Former Sunnyvale Councilmember Chris Moylan has a great blog post on "The Left Hook" pointing out the absurdity of Meyering's supporters' claims.
  • The Sunnyvale Sun runs a front page piece on how much Meyering's lawsuit is costing Sunnyvale.
  • SanJoseInside has a great new article on the recall drive. Evidently Meyering's supporters are now comparing him to Ghandi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Documents obtained from the Sunnyvale City Attorney's office show that Sunnyvale spent over $83,000 defending itself from Meyering's frivolous "trip and fall" lawsuit.

How has Meyering hurt Sunnyvale?:

  • After repeatedly being verbally abused by Meyering in his first year on council the Sunnyvale City Attorney resigned.
  • The poisoned atmosphere Meyering has created on the council contributed to the City Manager's decision to resign during Meyering's second year on the council.
  • Meyering has sued the city of Sunnyvale over a trivial "trip and fall" incident which was subsequently tossed out of court forcing the city to spend in in excess of $83,000 to defend itself.
  • Meyering has accomplished absolutely nothing during his tenure on the council.
  • Meyering's leadership of the Sunnyvale Housing and Human Services commission led to the resignation of all the members of the commission as well as the city staffer for the commission.
